That sounds right. If you run out of space while transcoding your job  
will exit and probably without a proper error code. There is a setting  
in mythtv-setup to set aside a certain amount of space in your storage  
that mythtv will leave there and auto-expire programs once that  
threshold is met. I leave 10GB on each of my drives so I know I have  
room to rip a DVD and not completely fill it up before it has time to  
(slow) delete the required space.

Of course the better option is a new hard drive. I just picked up  
another 1TB drive from Fry's for $159.
