I find that even if I can return to Recorded Programs, video playback
or preview playback no longer works for *any* program, necessitating
that mythfrontend be restarted (and probably Xorg as well, but my
frontend is set up so that the former triggers the latter).

Same time frame for me. I am seeing this issue happen on both 9-1
(KQEDDT) and 9-3 (one of the multiplexed standard-definition channels)
but, curiously, 9-2 (another multiplexed channel) is fine.. I am using
the ATrpms 0.21 package from the end of July, r17961. I've been
keeping an eye on the HDTV-in-SFbay mailing list but have not seen
anything regarding changes this week to KQED broadcasts. I also use a
HDHomeRun, with the most-recent firmware.
