[mythtv-users] Cannot watch KQED recorded with HDHR on MythTV

I have finally figured out what is going on with not being able to
watch KQED 9.1 and 9.3 recorded on my system after 8/15. In a small
poll, I found that 3 people could not watch KQED recorded and one
could. The difference is that if you record KQED with a HDHR, it will
not play. If I record it with my Air2PC, it is fine. HDHR, no play,
Air2PC, no problem.

The issue is probably related to a problem KQED has with their header.
This is easy to see before 5PM when the program information says "DTV
Station" instead of giving the real program information. Obviously
there is more to it that that to cause this problem.

So, what is going on and how can this be fixed?

I think I read somewhere that the HDHR strips a particular sub-channel
from the data stream. I forget what this is called. If that is true,
they must be creating a new lower bit rate data stream and whatever
they are doing is freaking out MythTV, at least my Mythbuntu 8.04. It
should be said that mplayer will play the recording fine so it
definitely takes a combination of all three of these elements: KQED,
HDHR, MythTV. Take away any one and all if good.

So, we could ask KQED to fix it. I have done this but it is probably
difficult for them and may take a long time.
We could ask Silicon Dust to fix it.
We could file a bug report as Myth is freaking out and should probably
be able to deal with it.

Comments? More details? Anything to do in Myth to fix this? Any
settings I don't know about?

Allen
