Actually, I found a non-Myth app last night that works quite well - and
it's really configurable:

www.handbrake.fr

It has a nice GUI version, AND a CLI version, which I'm thinking might
integrate well with Myth. Has anyone looked into trying to use Handbrake
through the Myth interface??

It solved the "postage stamping" problem above. It has many different
options, will do several different container formats, will even rip a disc
into an iPod-compatible file. Check it out!
