The law they are using is kinda out dated. The federal law says 55" or
smaller and exempts sports bars. Now this kills me why exempt people making
money off the game but not the church who is just trying to attract people
that normally might not go to church or who haven't gone in awhile, but
don't make money off the game. Second I quote NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy:
"We have no objection to churches and others hosting Super Bowl parties as
long as they . . . show the game on a television of the type commonly used
at home," he said. "It is a matter of copyright law." I know more and more
people with screens bigger than 55". My dad uses a projector on his
basement wall for HD content. So with TV's getting bigger and bigger that
the average consumer can buy (didn't CES have some 150" plasma's on display
this year?) I think the 55" is outdated.
As far as the counting argument, that's what happens now anyways. How many
of you know people who go to superbowl parties? (That's how the superbowl
didn't get recorded in my house, doh) That only counts as 1 household. I
guess you could say the church can hold more, but Bars can too and are they
able to count how many in a bar for advertsing?
