I can't remember how to do this, but it should be pretty easy to  
monitor this & have the system email you in the event of problems. I,  
for one, check my email every day.

This is possible in Raid, and I have it setup. To my knowledge it is not
possible with LVM or with myth storage groups.

Let me specify. To my knowledge it is not possible with several drives just
mounted on the system without a 3rd party monitoring program.
