Ah ha, the reason for this is /etc/default/mythtv-status is a config
file for the cronjob tool. Try removing everything
from /etc/default/mythtv-status and replacing it with:
RUN=yes
HOST=niflheim

Cool, yeah, you don't need it in there. The motd is just a static file,
it doesn't get run.
