Well the first thing to do is to get some log output:

mythfrontend -v playback  >/tmp/frontend.log

Should put some useful output in /tmp/frontend.log....

I'm guessing you'll see something along the lines of....."Refresh too low
for bobdeint defaulting to onefield..."
In which case you'll need "Viktor's Patch"... search this list for posts
from me mentioning Viktor & bob and you'll find it.

(You could also try  mplayer -vo xvmc:bobdeint  FILE.mpg,  this may or may
not work depending on your setup. But if it works you'll be able to see what
bob should look like)
