Switches? More than 1? Sounds like a bandwidth problem. If you're  
running 10 megabit at any point, I would say it's not enough for a  
smooth HD stream. You mentioned 10/100 which I assumed meant your  
switch was capable of 10 or 100 and you were running 100. Make sure  
you're running 100 megabit and put your frontend on the same switch as  
your backend to see if it helps.
