How quickly after mythbackend has started. (Sorry, got to this thread late,
and have lost the head, so dunno if you're running mythfilldb on startup or
not.)

I had exactly the same issue running mythwelcome on startup, it would fail
to connect to the backend almost instantaniously, turned out it was the
backend not accepting connections until it was ready.

Fixed it with a small perl script to wait for the backend on startup.
