Cable companies are supposedly required to allow you to use your own  
STB (or have that functionality integrated into your TV set).

Unfortunately the way they do that is with the CableCard, and there is  
no Linux solution to using that AFAIK.

The interesting thing about the device in the original post is that it  
can accept input via firewire, preserving the quality of the signal.

Of interest to MATV operators, but not to Myth users at this point.
