4. It was an interesting story...

I have been poking at Linux on and off since 1993 when I helped set-up a
not-for-profit ISP (Toronto Free-Net). In the case of that ISP, thanks to a
donation from Sun we ended up running all our key servers on Solaris (you can
not beat free industrial grade hardware / software :-) ). In 1996 I was hired
by a commercial ISP who ran some of their key servers under Linux (as well as
some of the commercial versions of Unix).

Since then I have used Linux in almost all situations. In 2003 I deployed a
bunch of Linux machines in a temporary Internet lounge, which I turned into a
story for Linux Journal:

Since the above happened I have been writting on a semi-regular basis. When I
heard about MythTV I thought, "this is interesting sounding software that
could make me a modest number of $". So I have written about MythTV:

Needless to say I am now much out of pocket on MythTV, having thrown way too
much money at my MythTV (currently two) boxes...

As for Microsoft, I will happily use their products when it makes sense to use
them. Mind you, the last time I used their software products was for a
university course last summer that demanded Microsoft stuff (sigh!) before
that I don't recall... As for Microsoft hardware some of that is VERY nice
(this response was typed on a Microsoft natural keyboard (ugly to look at,
but very comfortable to type on).)
