I bought one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148288

about a month ago, and I've been quite pleased with it. I used it for a
while by itself, and it was quite fast. Right now, I have it in an LVM with
an older, slower, 500gb drive, but no problems to speak of. The newegg user
ratings are not as good as when I bought it, but from what I can tell, it's
pretty good as long as it's not DOA.

I've had very good luck with Segate Barracuda drives. I use this to store
DVD rips, Music, etc, and I use an older, 120gb IDE Barracuda as my main
recording drive. It has served me well for 6 months of exclusive Myth usage
(after 5 years of happy file storage service before that).

so that's my $.02. Happy shopping.
