What theme are you using? I'm pretty sure know exactly what is causing
it, because I helped fix that same problem in one of the themes. The
thumbnail doesn't redraw its own background. You have to make sure one
of the other containers in the page extends below the thumbnail so it
redraws. Let me know which theme and I'll give you a pointer on fixing
it.
