This was discussed several months ago on the list.  Someone actually wrote a
script that takes two screen shots and compares them.  If they were the same
it would power on the box.  I don't use the script but remember reading it
and filing the idea when/if i get cable. (HD PVR?)

You should be able to find it by searching the archives or maybe the wiki.
