well then I guess you'd be SOL because it would check that the STB is on and see that the images were all black and then send a power on command which due to the STB really being on, will now be off. then it would change the channel (which wouldn't work either because the stb is off) and you'd be recording a black screen. Sorry, not sure how to solve against this. I never even thought about that.

My setup is a SA3250HD STB with Time Warner in Milwaukee, WI. I use an ir blaster and capture s-video out of the STB with a PVR-350 s-video in. Since incorporating this little script I haven't missed a recording yet. One thing you could also look at is in your STB settings, there's sometimes an auto shutoff setting at a certain time. check to make sure that it isn't set or if it is, there should also be an auto turn on setting, you could set these 2 numbers for like 2am auto off and 2:01am auto turn on. Just a thought.
