[mythtv-users] How hard is it to build an HD MythTV?

Wow, thanks everyone for the great feedback. Let me dig a little deeper. I
was concerned about the projector and tested it using WinXP DVI output into
the HDMI input. It worked even though I didn't set up the resolution
properly. I just did the test to see if the copy protection in the
projector would block the computer and was thrilled that it didn't. My fall
back was to use the VGA input. Does this mean this is not an issue or do I
need to do some more testing?

On the MB, my computer builder (time to give him some more business so he
keeps giving me free advice) likes ASUS P5K series. I am thinking of using
the P5K-EPU or the P5K-SE/EPU (if it is out) as they both look interesting.
He usually uses the P5K-VM. The EPU boards claim to throttle back the power
to something like 20% when there is no CPU load. With the cost of power
today, that is important as this box will probably be on all the time.
These boards use Intel P35 chipsets. My computer guy is suggesting a E8400
(3GHz Core2Duo) and, although that sounds like too much processor, I think I
will start there just to be safe.

In terms of trying it first before buying the hardware. Well, I would have
to get the HDHR anyway and the only computer I have that I could try it on
would be a P4-2.4GHz and that may not be enough for HD or even ATSC into SD
for that matter from what I have read. Do you think I should try it with
this computer? Would it even work with the HDHR into SD? Some of what I
watch is only on the HD feed of the ATSC stream (PBS). I guess I could
still experiment with some of the SD sub channels...
