I'm trying to setup a mythtv frontend on an eMac running debian etch. I
have debian installed, everything seems to work (I can play video using vlc
via my network; the video and sounds work great). When I tried to install
mythtv, it seems the packages in the debian multimedia repository were
incompatible. Some were version 5, some were version 6. I could install
most of myth, such as mythtv-common .21-06etch, but when I would try to
install mythtv-frontend .21-05etch, I would get a dependancy error, saying
it couldn't locate mythtv-common .21-05etch. From talking to other people
on this list that were successful running mythtv .21 on their debian etch
machines, from the debian multimedia repository, I gathered that the only
difference between my setup and thiers was that my machine was PPC, and
theirs was x86. So my conclusion was that the packages that appear in
synaptic when I search for "mythtv" on my debian etch install on my eMac are
incompatible. I'm not sure how the packages get to the debian repositories,
who creates them, or who maintains them, but as far as I can tell, as of
11:00 this morning, they did not work together.

Fast-forward to 3:00. As I was writing this, I went back to my frontend
system to see what specific information I could gather to better describe my
problem, and I was surprised to see that the packages are now up to version
8. So I tried installing them, and it all worked. I just connected it to
my backend server, and it seems to work. I had been running on OS X, but
the system didn't seem able to perform well enough to display SD after the
update to .21. Now it seems to work well on Debian.

Thank you to whomever updated the Debian Multimedia repository with the new
packages and made this possible for me. My WAF will finally have a chance
to rise to the level it was before I started my troubled upgrade from .20.2
to .21.
