[mythtv-users] Finally using comflagging (wow!), have a few questions

Man...don't know why I waited almost a full year using mythtv without
using commercial flagging at all. Since I record almost all HD (OTA)
I had it in my head that the CPU requirements just weren't worth
bothering. It turns out that my Dell 4600 2.8 Ghz backend doesn't do
too shabby of a job at it at all. I'm stunned at how accurate it'd
been so far. After a few shows with auto-skipping enabled on the
frontend I'm hooked....an amazing bit of work on the part of the devs
for sure.

I'm using all methods and, for now, I have strict enabled. As yet I
don't have recordings defaulting to auto-skip.

First (slightly dumb) question...when I see people referring to
"realtime commflagging", they're simply referring to use of the "Start
auto-commercial flagging jobs when recoding starts" setting, correct?

Today I tried a real tough test, recording HD shows on all three of my
tuners with commflagging going on all three, and even watched a forth
recording for a bit while all that was going on. That's pushing it a
lot more than I plan to. Everything seemed to work fine. I got two
stray IOBOUND errors, though they didn't cause any problems...not bad
considering my database is sharing a drive with my LVM2 video volume.
Of course with three commflagging jobs going at once it slows down
enough to no longer be realtime...I just wanted to make sure it
wouldn't cause problems. That low cpu niced setting certainly seems
to keep it safe.

Here's my main question: (Note that I'm still running 0.20.2 for now).
I'd like to record some selected shows using realtime commflagging,
mostly ones that we tend to start watching when they're about half
over...it works great for those cercumstances. I'd prefer to have the
others just run during the night. As far as I can see there's no way
to do that with programs marked for auto-commflagging.

The work-around I was considering was to leave everything set the way
it is; mark the shows that I want flagged in realtime for auto
commflagging; and to write a simply nightly cron job that picks up
everything else from the previous day using mythcommflag with the
--allstart option.

I think that should work pretty well, unless someone has a better
suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Tom
