Are you tuning with the 5500 or with an external channel change script? 
I'm assuming it works ok changing channels while in LiveTV mode.
I would recreate the situation you had (schedule something to record, 
then turn on LiveTV, monitor your backend/frontend logs) and see what 
happens.
