And some more information...

It seems that sound works for me in VLC for programs recorded on Ten HD. I
can't see much difference in the format though from, say ABC HD:

ABC HD (No sound in VLC):

Input #0, mpegts, from '1020_20080419192400.mpg':
  Duration: 01:06:58.3, start: 70698.300967, bitrate: 10360 kb/s
  Program 1
    Stream #0.0[0x204]: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 1280x720 [PAR 1:1 DAR
16:9], 9600 kb/s, 50.00 tb(r)
    Stream #0.1[0x28e](eng): Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 448 kb/s

Ten HD (Sound works in VLC):

Input #0, mpegts, from '1050_20080423202400.mpg':
  Duration: 01:11:57.8, start: 7850.664522, bitrate: 15359 kb/s
  Program 1
    Stream #0.0[0x777]: Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 1920x1080 [PAR 1:1 DAR
16:9], 14600 kb/s, 25.00 tb(r)
    Stream #0.1[0x778](eng): Audio: liba52, 48000 Hz, stereo, 384 kb/s

Steve.

I could be completely wrong about this. But.

If you notice, with Ten HD the video and audio streams are right next to
each other, 0x777 and 0x778.

ABC HD on the other hand is very far apart, 0x204 and 0x28e. Numerically
there are 138 possible stream locations between these to streams.

Maybe when you plan the file you need to select the audio stream in VLC
because they are too far apart for the program to realize that they belong
together?
