I *was* for a while using my 7300. (I eventually abandoned it and upgraded
to a 6200 that I also happened to have lying around.)

I think you mean deinterlacer. Have you tried Bob?

I, too, had bad results with yadif. (same CPU, same amount of idle, same
symptoms.) I was able to get Bob to run just fine, however.
Some things I remember... are you using openGL or qt? OpenGL was a train
wreck on the 7300, start to finish in the "DOES NOT WORK" category. Are you
using Xv, XvMC, or ???? I was able to get Xv to work just fine. And,
again, for a deinterlacer I was able to get Bob to do his thing.
I eventually abandoned my 7300 and upgraded to a 6200 because I could find
no combination of GPU clock frequencies that wouldn't cause random crashes
on my 7300 when using XvMC. The 6200 works solid as a rock using XvMC,
though that doesn't help you.
(I threw the 7300 in my windows box, and surprise surprise, solid as a rock
there decoding video. nvidia's linux support kind of REALLY sucks. They
don't care if their linux drivers work or not.)
