Because when it comes to Myth, you can't record anything that's
(actually) protected. (I.e. the broadcast flag that's the issue here
isn't real protection, but a request from the broadcaster/rebroadcaster
that you treat it as "protected," but as others mentioned, the law
requiring compliance with the broadcast flag was shot down.)
So, things that are encrypted--i.e. many HDTV channels on cable
systems--can't be recorded in Myth. OTA (assuming it's not from a
wireless "cable" company, as that's not really "OTA") should always be
unencrypted in the US.
