I just looked at my Mythbuntu machine and it does not give an option for
the homebrew IR receiver in MCC. It is only available when you run
dpkg-reconfigure. Perhaps the lirc package did not fully install. Try to
remove it and re-install from a shell. Then run dpkg-reconfigure again
from a shell prompt. Failing that the changes necessary to manually
configure a serial IR receiver are pretty small. I can post my conf
files and you could modify yours to match.
