i only use basic cable as it is included with my condo assessment.  i use the 
hdhomerun to record ota digital broadcasts, the pchdtv-5500 to record digital 
qam (in the clear) from the cable and the pvr-350 to record ntsc stuff that 
is not in the clear and must be passed through the stb.
