I thought PH looked interesting a while ago, but being UPnP-only was a
show-stopper for me. A proper MythTV frontend is a must, UPnP alone
lacks too many features to be really useful.
Until this issue is solved, I decided to build a standard MythTV
frontend on a system with good modern 3D capabilities, and so make it a
dual-purpose machine: MythTV frontend and Windows gaming "console". All
it needs above and beyond mythtv requirements is a good 3D card, the
rest can be pretty trivial.
For a frontend-only machine, power consumption is not very important,
since it doesn't have to be up 24/7.
The fact that I had already a server running 24/7 doing other things,
that could also become a mythtv backend at almost no cost (except the
hard-drive), facilitated the decision very much.
