I don't know how well this would apply to the Harmony 550, but I found a
pretty good solution for the Harmony 880.

In summary, I had the Harmony 880 emulate a remote with a huge number of
codes, specifically the Sony STR-DA5300ES receiver.  After you map codes to
all the hard buttons, you have about 40 codes left over for the soft
buttons.

You can probably use that lircd.conf file as-is, but the .lircrc file and
myth key bindings need to be carefully checked over according to your needs.
