The PVR500 does not have digital tuners. It can capture analog broadcast
or analog cable, with both tuners behind the one coax input.

Yes, the 500 can take a header with an extra set of inputs for the
second encoder. I think they've gone back and forth on whether it's
included in the box or an extra purchase.

You don't need it if you're not using TV out.

The MCE is the white-box, or at least it was. They're mostly the same,
but MCE versions have an FM radio and RCA inputs while non-MCE (retail)
versions have a remote and IR blaster/receiver. A while back I also
started seeing retail 150MCE kits, which I think are the MCE card with a
Microsoft MCE remote and USB receiver.
