Do you happen to have a XvMC profile running? If so, try SLIM to see
if this is the problem. If it is, then you can go back and at least
know what you are troubleshooting.
I have a projector that won't work with the auto generated settings.
I have this line in my xorg.conf SCREENS section:
Option "metamodes" "DFP: 1280x720_60 +0+0"
The MONITOR section has no line about modes or screen resolutions, or
auto settings.
