[mythtv-users] Auto-expire extra space setting and slow deletes

I don't plan on letting my backend video directory fill up, but I'd
like to know things would be handled gracefully if it did.
I got thinking about the possible affect of slow deletes (which I have
enabled as I'm using ext3) on this. That is, if the backend
auto-expires recordings based on the auto expire extra space setting,
it takes some time for that space to actually get freed up. I think I
have the free space setting at 25 GB right now. I record all OTA DTV,
so shows can range from 4 to as much as 12 GB (for a 2 hour show).
I'd say the total number of shows I record per day probably ranges
averages around 5 and can be as much as 10.
I'm trying to get an idea of what extra space setting I should use
that, in theory, would allow a "full" system to continue without
problems. I guess part of that depends on the actual speed of slow
deletes. I don't believe I've ever read exactly what that is, if
someone knows offhand.
When I have a new enough kernel I'll probably think about switching to
ext4, but in the mean time I'd like to know. Thanks in advance.
Tom
