That's basically what I've done with some old PATA drives. 16GB Raid-1
for the OS, then a second partition on the first drive for NAS --
which is backed up nightly to a sister partition on the second disk
(because Raid-1 is NOT a backup!). Then the rest of each drive is
Raid-0 for recordings. Works great, although you do take a small hit
on the extra power consumption.

Yeah, my BE and FE are both 256MB. The BE is using 65MB of swap, so
would probably benefit from another 64MB module. The FE is NFS-Root so
no there is no swap at all, and in fact 32MB is lost to shared video
RAM. However, 'top' still reports 73MB cached so I think it has some
breathing room yet. This is for SD-only MPEG2 content with XvMC,
however, so other setups might not work so well at low RAM levels.
