[mythtv-users] Help Using MythTv

I have set up a simple MythTv configuration, one backend and one 
frontend on a single machine.  I only want to view over-the-air HD and I 
have successfully set up MythTv to do just that.  My problems are in 
starting Mythtv and Recording.

Now to start it I use two terminal windows one to start the backend and 
one to start the frontend. Is there a way to have the backend start 
automatically when the frontend is started? ... And shutdown when the 
frontend is stopped?
Also what parts of mythtv have to be running for a recording to start 
(just the backend)?

I am not using any internet video sources and will program  manual 
recordings only.  This brings the next question.
I made a manual recording and gave it a name "NASCAR". The recording was 
started and stopped on time. But in my recording directory, there was no 
file containing the name.  All files were named with date/time.  I did 
not see how to play the recording from within the frontend. How is that 
done? It played fine with Totem.

Most of the time, I would like to place the recording on a DVD to watch 
at another location.  How is that done?  All the video in the mythtv 
video directory are .mpg files.

I am use a PCtv 800i dual tuner capture card.
