I think the point of this is to make a bit backup copy to a hard disk
which cannot be put on a DVD so it cannot be sold and you don't have
to defeat the copy protection to make the backup so it is
unquestionably legal.
It can then be played with a legal player that is able to play a DVD
from a file.  If such a product does not exist, it certainly could be
although I guess it would not be open source. :-)

All of this would allow legal backup and playing of your backed up
copy without allowing a pirate to create a copy to a writable DVD.

So, why can't I do this?  I think someone said the copy protection
information is hidden in some sector that cannot be copied.  If this
is true, then the player could not play from a file.  Is that true?  I
have not tried to play from a file because I cannot create the file.
I am probably missing some other things here as well.

Allen
