I have fixed my problem, but thought I would post it here as I am sure
someone else will manage to shoot themselves in the foot with the same gun:)
After a failed upgrade of my Master BE from Mythbuntu 8.10 to 9.04, I
decided to do a re-install. My system is RAID1, both for boot and
recordings.
I installed Mythbuntu by first installing Ubuntu from the Alternate CD
and then doing an apt-get install mythbuntu-desktop. All my recordings
were there and I could play them fine. However, I couldn't watch live TV
or make any recordings. Since it had been a while since I had done a
channel scan, I deleted all my capture cards, re-added them and did a
full scan. However, still no live TV or ability to record.
Eventually the penny dropped while staring at the error in the logs:
2009-08-04 15:21:29.645 MainServer::HandleAnnounce Playback
2009-08-04 15:21:29.648 adding: mythtv as a client (events: 0)
2009-08-04 15:21:30.101 TVRec(1): Changing from None to WatchingLiveTV
2009-08-04 15:21:30.151 TVRec(1): HW Tuner: 1->1
2009-08-04 15:21:31.736 TFW, Error: Opening file
'/home/mythmedia/5671_20090804152130.mpg'.
eno: Permission denied (13)
The recordings directory had a different uid and gid from that in my
original install, so was no longer owned by MythTV. A quick sudo chown
-R mythtv.users /media/recordings fixed the problem.
