Since John has it working, I must be missing a dependency.

I can get all the way to the point of selecting the video to watch. 
On Apple trailers it bombs immediately.
On the other videos I attempted it caches some of the video before
attempting to play and bombing again.

I'm using Gentoo, and I have built an ebuild for installation.
Here are my dependencies based on the installation guide at
http://home.kabelfoon.nl/~moongies/howto/mythstream_install.html
DEPEND="media-video/mplayer
        dev-perl/XML-Simple
        dev-perl/XML-DOM
        dev-perl/XML-XQL
        =sci-libs/fftw-2*"

I assume this is out of date and missing some dependencies.
