Not sure if this helps but the Goom visualisations ran fine on my AMD
XP1600 processor with an NVIDIA 5200 running mythtv 0.18 under FC5.

They also run fine on my slightly newer sempron 2800 with the same
graphics card running mythtv 0.21 under FC8.

So at least they don't need a 4gig quad core.
