Is that all of the output you get from the cx-18 initialization?  I get
quite a bit more than that:

Admittedly this is for 2 cx18 cards, but for instance, I don't see any
of the tveeprom, tuner, or firmware loading lines in your dmesg.

How old is your motherboard?  This card has been known to have i2c
problems with older motherboards, though I though they'd fixed those all up.

All of that said, I still have problems configuring this thing in
MythTV.  Upon first attempt, it seems to have recognized a simple analog
v4l device.  I have to tell it that it's an mpeg2 capture card, and it
still doesn't recognize the device.  After I type in the device name,
then it recognizes everything and all is well.

At the moment it doesn't sound like your card is getting properly
initialized.  Before even attempting to use it with MythTV I'd try
something much simpler - a simple live TV application.  I did initial
debug with mplayer and v4l tools.

If you're still having troubles, I'd suggest looking for Andy Walls on
the v4l or ivtv lists.
