You might also check for heat issues. The inside of the case could be
heating up too hot after the system has been on for a while. That can
cause hardware devices to shut down after a period of time. It's a long
shot, but I have seen it happen with some of my systems. I had one
machine that would consistently lock up every time I tried to back up a
certain file system. Monitoring the ACPI CPU temperature showed that it
was slowly climbing until it reached over 60 degrees C, at which point
it would lock up. Changed cases, and now it works fine around 46 degrees
C.
