Cable providers are looking into "switched digital." There won't be any "broadcast" channels at all. There will be one signal in the wire . . . the one you requested to view. 

Well, I suppose this isn't too different from every tuner having to have its own STB. But then you wonder if they'll start to turn everything into pay per view, or start viewing allowances. 

Time to invest in a good antenna.
