Yep, I think it's ok now.

Yes, I've set it to play in a window. I can change the size of the
window itself, but the video being played doesn't change size: When I
make the window smaller, I can see only a part of the video; when I
make it larger, the black borders will get larger.

This is so since I switched to using VDPAU. Kaffeine and other players
resize the video just fine with the window size, and I think they are
using VDPAU by default.
