I'm on Gentoo and I will report that the Internal player still will not play
everything for me.  I have gone the same route using xine for ISOs and
mplayer for mkv/x264 and use lirc to fix all of the keymappings.  The WAF is
still quite high though for me since lirc still makes it all just work.
