I'm guessing, from his original URL, that he -did- RTFW---and searched
for ``cx18 nvidia''. The URL he provided was its top hit; the one to
the MythTV wiki is (for me) pretty much at the bottom of the page.
For all we know, it was on the -second- page for him, which the SEO
people claim means "absolutely gone, never to be seen by 99.99% of
all users." So he went with that, tried to follow the instructions,
and documented his difficulty. Now, perhaps he should have added
"mythtv" to his search before posting, or even before writing about it
in his blog and -then- posting, but he didn't. [Interestingly, doing
that just now makes his post still higher than the wiki page, but
now the wiki page is result #2 for me, and the ubuntuforums thread
he found is #3 in that ranking.]

My message was an attempt to gently point out that files in Ubuntu
that are not writable---even by root---are typically that way as a
reminder that they are automatically generated, and that the better
way he should have fixed the problem was to have read the comments
at the top of the file and modified the inputs to the generated file,
rather than to chmod +w and edit directly. What I was -not- doing
was yelling at someone who was inexperienced in this sort of thing
that, by searching the web and finding -a- page about it---but not
-the- page about it that you wanted him to find---he should "RTFW".
That sort of unpleasantness tends to scare off new users and tends to
dissuade them from even attempting to share their newfound solutions
with others---since it only takes one or two people yelling at them
for many users to never be brave enough to try again.
