When I was running a slave backend, I did it with a Perl script that 
parsed the output of mythbackend --printsched and powered up the slave 
via WOL when it saw an upcoming conflict.  A matching script on the 
slave powered it down when it was idle and there were no upcoming 
recording jobs for it.
