I'm not sure that this is still the case...
Intel C2D in 45nm are known to use much less power than their AMD counterparts.

AMD used to consume less power, but that was a while ago..

Things have definitely changed since.

There are 8300/8400 based AMD motherboards ... Though obviously as AMD
has swallowed ATI ; they are pushing for an ATI integrated chipset and
nvidia latest chipset not surprisingly is for intel only

AM2 is just the socket used by the processor ; you don't have to...

It all depends on how well it detects a signal to be interlaced or not
.. I have no idea..

You'll have to try I guess.
