I agree with everything you wrote.

But this is not what I am referring to ; using the python or perl
binding you can only modify the category field. The script
find_meta.py will read the genre from IMDb and place it in the
cateogry field.
If you run the imdbpy.py script (or imdb.pl) , this will modify the genre field.

Currently , you have no way of properly automating getting the genre
of a video, it can only be done for the category
