There is infact an app something like that, but it's for iPhone/iPod  
Touch. It's called MyMote and it's listed in the iTunes Store as being  
developed by Chase Douglas. Try getting in contact with him. It  
shouldn't be too hard of an app to develop.

It's an open source project, and I wouldn't mind seeing this get  
ported to other mobile platforms, like Symbian, J2ME or BlackBerry  
OSes. It'd certainly increase the acceptance factor with non-techies.
