My computer takes almost 2 minutes from the case button push to having
mythfrontend up. (I could chop 20 seconds off of this by enabling the
"quick check" on the BIOS and reducing 5 second timeouts for Grub and
mythtv user auto-login, but anything over 7-10 seconds is a wait. You
just have to accept it, or leave your box on all the time.)

Under certain situations you can get a keyboard/mouse or remote network
activity to boot up the machine. If your remote goes through a physical
keyboard port it could probably be made to work.

Yes, yes it is. I bought the cheapest computer I could get a Fry's, as
price was my biggest concern. On the other hand, because the computer
takes so much power, turning it off when idle makes the power savings
more impressive ;> If I had bought a very "green" PC setup and was only
using 60 watts when idle I'd probably just leave it on all the time.
(But the Powersupply, MB, CPU, etc would have cost several hundred
dollars more, and that pays for a lot of electricity.)
