The OP was looking for something that was easy to setup. Running trunk and
or patching a .21 setup to support the HD-PVR and a VDPAU video card don't
generally fall into the easy to setup category. These are improving rapidly,
but there would be more work than you are used to with either of those and
you are almost certain to run in to bugs, etc.

The other option is that some set top boxes will allow you you capture HD
directly from the box via firewire. This seems to be hit or miss, some
people have great success while others end up giving up on it because it
just isn't worth the trouble.

Also just to be clear you don't need VDPAU to get HD output to an HDTV,
VDPAU just shifts the computational load of decoding from the CPU to the GPU
it doesn't have anything to do with the actual sending an HD signal to a TV.
You just need to get an card that has HDMI or component (not to be confused
with composite) outputs. However, the suggestion to get a VDPAU card is
still a good suggestion as it will be supported in mythtv .22 and should
give the best quality along with the computational/energy benefits.
