I wouldn't know for sure how tolerant of pixelation you are
personally, but I myself wouldn't want to be at less than the 1080p
I'm running at on my projector.  At that size, you're talking about 12
pixels horizontal per inch, so the step up to 18.7 pixels horizontally
per inch is quite noticeable.  I project to a 106" Panoview Greywolf
II with a Mitsubishi HC5000.  I am tremendously happy with it.  It's
my preferred "event" Myth watching location.  The HC5000 has since
been replaced by the HC6000, but they are more or less the same-- high
brightness 1080p projectors, amazingly good reviews at projector
central, 24p capable, DVI, HDMI, s-video, component, composite, the
whole shebang.  It's been a great, great myth display device.
