They aren't just making arbitrary arguments. They did the studies with
separate groups. The groups that had interruptions of various kinds
consistently rated their overall enjoyment of the show they were
watching higher than the groups that watched the same shows straight
through. They are just trying to explain the results, which were quite
odd and surprising.
